The main point in question throughout this poem is appreciation for ones country. I will prove that this is the main point in question during the course of my essay. The poem "Soldier" is Brooke's views on the possible occurrence of his own death in the field and what he feels that foreign country would gain from his death.

That is why he used words that go along with a religious ceremony to describe the horrors of the battlefield but used things such as candles, pallor brows, flowers and closing of the blinds in a positive manor because they are all ways to show that people are mourning over the death of the people they loved.
